Comparison - UDPP Original vs. UDPP Anti Aging

Hello Lovelies,

If you don't know what UDPP is... then you are missing out!

In my opinion, Urban Decay makes one of the best eye shadow primers in the market!
The packaging has come a long way from when it was first introduced in the beauty world, and thank goodness for that.  It used to come in a curvy shaped bottle with a doe foot applicator (like a lip gloss) and it was nearly impossible to get the last bit of product out, unless you cut open the bottle...etc etc... Some of you know what I'm talking about... it was a pain!
Alas UD listened to our cry's and came out with a better applicator... the squeeze tip.  Much better and more sanitary!

For years I used the original UDPP, even after they came out with the shimmery one and nude one.  However a while ago I received a deluxe sample of the UDPP Anti-Aging one in a Sephora perk and I thought it would be worth doing a little comparison.

Urban Decay Primer Potion - Anti-Aging

  • The anti-aging formula is much better for mature skin.  I find that this primer makes the skin on your eyelid a little tighter which makes it easier to apply eye shadows.
  • The formulation is also a little more creamier than the original which is better for drier lids and helps blend the eye shadows really well.
  • The con of the creamier formula is, if you have oily lids, this primer may not make your eye shadow last as long as the original formula.  I don't have oily lids and I find this primer is good for 8 hours, not 24 hours like it claims.
  • If you like to use primer under your concealer, I found the anti-aging one works better.  It doesn't feel as heavy as the original formula under the concealer and it doesn't look as dry (as the original one does) once the concealer sets.
  • This primer is a very sheer and colourless compared to the original.  So I would say that it is suitable for any skin tone.
  • I recommend this primer for mature skin lids and for drier lids.  It's also great for the colder months when our skin tends to be a more dry.  The extra creaminess gives the lids a little more love ya know ;)

Urban Decay Primer Potion - Original

  • This formula is great for all skin types, except if you have really dry lids, it can get really dry sometimes.
  • They say the product goes on sheer, but sheer on fair skin and sheer on medium/darker skin are two different stories...when will they ever learn?! lol so it's got a bit of an ashy tone to it on darker skin tones. But having said that, if you're putting eye shadow on top, this doesn't pose too much of a problem at all.
  • The staying power of this primer is pretty much unbeatable!  (in my opinion).  It literally lasts all day and night... through dancing, sweating everything!
  • I recommend this primer for everyone, all skin types.  BUT if you like the lids to be a little tighter... try the Anti-Aging one out.

ps.  The Anti-Aging one advertises that it improve the condition of your skin, ie. wrinkles, uneven tone, etc.  I didn't find that it did that and I always say, "makeup" products that market themselves as skin care.... is a no go for me.  You eventually wash makeup off (hopefully) so how can there really be any long term benefits?  I dunno maybe one day a product will "wow" me!

I decided to put the primers to the test.  So for a full day (over 12 hours) I wore one primer on the left eye and one on the right...And here are the results:

Well the pictures speak for themselves.  Now you can see why these primers are amazing!  There really wasn't any difference between the two in terms of staying power and colour payoff.  At the end of the day it just comes down to preference.  My day consisted of a 2 way commute in a hot subway system and a long day at work, and even though I don't usually get that oily, I am always impressed with Urban Decay Primer Potion!

Overall, I have to say that you really can't go wrong with either of these primers.  They both do what they promise, which is to keep your eye shadows in place and make them appear brighter and true to it's colour.

*I always buy the mini sizes of the primers.  Price wise, they work out to be the same.  However the thing I don't really like about the regular (larger) one is by the time you get to the end, the primer is not as "fresh" so I rather have the tiny ones, use them up in half the time and have "fresh" feeling primer all the time.  The tiny size usually lasts me a good 6 months or more.  You don't need a large amount at all!

Hope this comparison was helpful to some of you.  Here are some pictures (taken in the evening without flash)...enjoy!

You can purchase both primers at Sephora.  Link Below:

  2. Hi there! Thanks for sharing. I just bought the anti-aging and have been facing problems using it. I don’t know why but I keep facing problems using this. I apply my eye cream on my eye as a general moisturiser first. Then after a while, I will apply the primer. Then a bit of BB cream. Then some face powder (to cover some of my dark spots). I don’t use a concealer, just don’t see the need to buy another make up product. Then I apply my eye shadow. It always has this caky effect and shows up on my lines and also patchy. I never had then before when I don’t use the primer. No doubt the make up seems to last longer but I cannot avoid seeing those patchy spots and caked up make up in my creases/fine lines. I have tried using lesser or more of the primer. I’ve also tried not using the BB cream on one eye, tried not applying the powder, etc. I’ve even tried to mix the primer with my BB cream just this morning. No doubt it is slightly better. But I still see my make up creasing (after only a few hours) on my eye lids (never before) and the caked up look at the corners of my eyes. I don’t know if it’s because of my eye cream which may be moisturising and cause my eyelids to be oilier. But how can I stop using my eye cream just because of make up application? So the primer seems to be doing more harm than good for me. I tried not using the powder and it worked a bit better but the eye shadow doesn’t seem to show up very nicely without the layer of powder. What advice do you have for me? Hi there! Thanks for sharing. I just bought the anti-aging and have been facing problems using it. I don’t know why but I keep facing problems using this. 1. I honestly would not apply moisturizer on the eye before putting on primer or eyeshadow. Whenever I have done this, it does not have a lasting effect as the lid is too oily. I apply the primer and then the eyeshadow. Why would I need BB cream if I am using primer? I think it is overkill.

  5. What is the best way to apply this with your eyeshadow? Do you apply then right away while it is wet put on eyeshadow? Or, do you wait till it’s a little dry or completely dry to put on eyeshadow? I’m trying to find information on this and I’m hoping that you will have this for me. Thank you! Diane
