Lilly Ghalichi's Signature Makeup - Tutorial by Bria Valencia (Lilly's MUA)

Hello Gorgeous,

For those of you who don't know who Lilly Ghalichi is, she is a reality TV star who used to be on Bravo's Shah's of Sunset.
She calls her self the "Persian Barbie"... and let's face it, she is everything barbie!
I have to admit, I watch the show...It's my guilty pleasure, and every time I would watch it I would just stare at her flawless face...her makeup is always ON POINT!!!

Well Wedensday night (August 13, 2014) I had the pleasure to join her online makeup tutorial featured on Stageit.com and it was a treat because she and her makeup artist (Bria) shared all her secrets and tips and tricks.  Even though I have been doing makeup for so many years, I always appreciate new tips and love watching other makeup artists do their thang cause you never know what you will learn.

I watched intently with a pen and paper and took notes so that I can share everything that I learned with you guys.  I will include the tools (I didn't write down the exact brushes used as you can use what you have on hand and what makes sense) and products that Bria used and also give you the exact colours/shades that she used to achieve Lilly's signature look.  I hope you guys find it useful :)  I have tried my best to include links to the products.

STEP BY STEP FOR THE GHALICHI GLAM LOOK - BY BRIA VALENCIA

Step 1 - Apply foundation all over face with a dry Beauty Blender.
Step 2 - Fill in eyebrows using a powder and an angled eyebrow brush.
Step 3 - After filling in the eyebrows take a small concealer brush and line the upper and lower part of eyebrows and blend out to further define eyebrows and make them stand out and look nice and clean.
Apply concealer above and below eye brows to define the brows

Step 4 - Apply bronzey toned eye shadows and blend all together making sure that there are no harsh lines.  Lilly said she loves smokey eyes and loves bronzey toned eye shadows.  Place the eye shadows from lightest to darkest from the inner to outer eyes and using the darkest shade to smoke out the shadows in the crease.  First pat or pack the shadow on to the lid with a dense brush and then blend with a fluffy brush.  This controls where the shadow is placed to ensure less fall out.
Step 5 - Apply gel liner with an angled liner brush as close to the lashes as possible and line it upwards near the outer corner.  This doesn't have to be perfect because you are going to blend and smoke it out.  Lilly doesn't like any harsh lines so she doesn't ever wear liquid liner.  Bria suggests to do one eye at a time in case you're not fast enough and the gel liner dries up on you.
Apply gel liner and smudge and smoke out.  No harsh lines!

Step 6 - Apply Lashes...stacked...Ghalichi Glam style!  Lilly says that she likes eye shadow but the star of her makeup looks are her Lilly Lashes.  They are her own brand of lashes which have an "invisible band" which makes it really easy and seamless to stack one lash on top of another for that Ghalichi Glam look that Lilly is known for.  Bria applies one lash at a time using lash glue and letting each lash dry before applying the other.
Step 7 -  Conceal and highlight under the eyes, bridge of the nose, forehead and chin.  Bria uses a 2-step process for achieving the signature Lilly highlight.  First apply a cream based concealer (in this case she used a cream foundation) using a concealer brush and pressing it into the skin with a dry Beauty Blender.  Let that sit and set into the skin for a minute and then apply a liquid concealer using a concealer brush and blending in using a patting/pressing motion with a dry Beauty Blender.  You don't have to apply so much pressure.  Just see what feels good for you.
Apply concealer to highlight the center of the face and blend out

Step 8 - Set only the highlighted area - concealer, with a powder with a brush or Beauty Blender using a pressing motion, not sweeping motion because you do not what to disrupt all the concealing you have just done.
Step 9 - Contour the parts of your face that you want to recede using a cream contour.  This includes the hollows of your cheek bones, the sides of your nose and the perimeter of your face.  This process further brings out the areas that you have previously highlighted.  Again, this does not need to be perfect because it will be blended out.
  • Bria used MAC Copper Beech Pro Sculpting Cream with a  concealer/foundation brush to place the lines and blended it with a DAMP Beauty Blender.  MAC Copper Beech might be discontinued or only a Pro product, but you can use any dark cream concealer in its place.
Apply contour color to perimeter of face and bridge of nose and forehead and blend

Step 10 - Set the contoured areas with a powder.
  • Bria used MAC Studio Fix Powder in NW45, which is a powder foundation.  She suggested to use a brush which is not so dense so it doesn't pick up so much product.  Use the press and blend motion lightly so it doesn't disrupt the work underneath.
    • Remember using less product and building to a fuller coverage is more forgiving than applying too much and trying to blend.  You will get muddy results doing the latter.
Step 11 - Apply Blush to the apples of your cheeks and blend to the back towards your ears.
  • Bria used MAC Honey Jasmine (discontinued) with a blush brush.  This is a peach coral colour and since it's discontinued the closest colour is NARS Gina Blush.
Apply blush to apples of the cheeks and blend upwards towards ears

Step 12 - Apply your powder/shimmer highlight the areas of the face you want to add light and luminosity to.
  • Bria used 3 different types of highlight products on different areas to achieve the desired look.
    • She used Global Glow by MAC on the tip and bridge of the nose.
    • She used New Vegas  by MAC with a fan brush on the high cheeks and cupids bow. Which is discontinued but a champagne shimmer such as the Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick will do just fine.
    • Lastly she used Eye M Glam by Giella on the high cheeks to further accentuate and add a glow.
Apply various shimmer highligters to further enhance the glow

Step 13 - Apply a contour powder below the lower lip to give the appearance of fuller lips.  Line lips with a mid town brown lip liner and apply an array of nude lipsticks to achieve an ombre effect, applying the lightest shade in the center of the lips and blending out.  Bria suggests that if you are using nude lips, using a brown lip liner ensure that your lips still stand out and not appear like the same as your skin tone or "dead".
Step 14 - Apply mascara to upper lashes to bind the falsies and natural lashes together.   Line lower lash line with a dark brown pencil and set with powder and blend/smoke out.  Also apply mascara to lower lashes.
And now...You should be all Ghalichi Glammed up!

All Glammed up and ready to go! #GhalichiGlam

Some extra tips from Lilly and Bria:
  • When it comes to makeup you should splurge on some items but on some you should definitely save.  Splurge items include Foundation... don't cheap out on that.  A good quality one will have a lot of pigments and last you a very long time.
  • Some save items include eye shadows and mascaras.
  • Also if you are doing a day time contour highlight, you should use 2 shades lighter and darker tones, for evening looks you can go all the way up to 4 shades lighter and darker to make it more dramatic, but always remember to blend!
  • Bria doesn't use a fixing spray on Lilly because she doesn't use that many powders, but she recommends it for those of you who use powders all over.

Hope you guys like this recap and tutorial of how the gorgeous Lilly gets glammed up!
Remember all the products and tools used should be taken as a guideline.  You don't have to go out and get all the exact products.  Being a makeup artist or an aspiring makeup artist means using products that suit you or your client the best and that all comes with practice and experience.
Makeup is fun...so go ahead and throw some colour around...if worse comes to worse you can always wash it off!
